Spring 2025

Week 21 in Nursery

Another brilliant week in Nursery!

We started our new book The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the role play area building bridges, pretending to be the troll and the Billy Goats. Fantastic teamwork building bridges!

Our letter of the week is i. So far we have looked at m,a,s,d,t,i. We have been doing lots of Fred Talk in nursery. Fred is a frog and he can only say the sounds in a word and needs your child to help him read the word. Fred will say the sounds and children will work out the word. For example, Fred will say the sounds c–a–t, and children will say the word cat. This is Fred Talk: sounding out the word.

In maths, we have continued to explore numbers 1,2,3 as well as looking at repeating patterns. It would be great if you could continue this at home. Can your child collect items such as sticks and leaves to create a repeating pattern?
We love to see pictures from home shared on Tapestry.

In our play this week we have been doing lots of activities linked to Valentine’s including using rice, colour mixing, making gloop but our favourite activity was following step by step instructions to make heart biscuits, yum!

We have also been strengthening our fine motor skills and using great concentration skills when sewing!

Well done Nursery superstars.

Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook

Week 20 in Nursery

We have had another very busy and exciting week in Nursery!

We have continued our learning all about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I was so impressed with the children for their story retell. We have been doing lots of activities linked to our story including sequencing the story, Goldilocks yoga, pretending that shaving foam was porridge and creating a new chair for baby bear out of junk modelling.

The children were VERY shocked to find out that Goldilocks had been in our classroom and messed it all up. The children made wanted posters to see if we could find Goldilocks!

In Maths, we identified different shapes and made a shape house. We have also been sorting and matching numbers 1,2 and 3. The children have also been matching and sorting colours.

We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring in the Wildlife Garden. What great fun we have had building houses for the mini beasts, making pretend fires, going on bear hunts, playing hide and seek and so much more.

Keep up the good work Nursery superstars!

For the next two weeks we will be reading and learning about the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff!

Week 19 in Nursery
Wow wow wow!

What an incredibly busy and exciting week we have had in Nursery!

Our story over the next two weeks is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Our role play area has transformed into the Bears Cottage. The children have shown great imagination when in this area. We made our very own porridge. We started by pouring the milk into the bowl and mixing the oats. We then looked at how porridge was made! The children then cut their own fruit and put it into their porridge. They had a lot of different choices of fruit, jam and honey mmmmm!

We also made mud porridge in our mud kitchen for the worms.

Linking to the story, the children worked together to make big, medium and small towers to represent the 3 bears.

We were very lucky to have Mr Bailey in Nursery this week. We went into the hall and had a now, press, play experience. We all put headphones on and listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks. Through the headphones we listened to instructions and pretended to be the characters from the stories. Mr Bailey also brought his iPads with exciting games linking to the stories.

We have also celebrated Chinese New Year and tasted some delicious Chinese food.

Well done Nursery, what a fabulous week we have had!

Thanks again for your continued support,
Mrs Cook

Week 18 in Nursery

We have had another brilliant week in Nursery!

We have continued our learning all about The Three Little Pigs story. The children have created some wonderful work and have shown amazing teamwork tiger skills in The Three Little Pigs construction house. I am so proud of the children for their Three Little Pigs story retell. We listened to each other retelling the story on the big screen!

We have been looking at different house/ homes from around the world and houses/ homes from the past and comparing them to now.

This week our letter of the week is s, our number is 3, our colour is yellow and our shape is a square. The Nursery children have also thoroughly enjoyed exploring outdoors and showed great independence skills putting waterproofs and wellies on.

The children have been doing a number of different activities to strengthen their fine motor skills. Our favourite activity is dough disco!

A very popular area in Nursery this week has been the creative table. The children have shown amazing imagination when creating their own art work.

Next week we will begin our learning based on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears!

Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Cook

Week 17 in Nursery

As you can see by the pictures, Nursery have had a very busy and fun filled week!
The children have shown amazing teamwork tiger skills, working together indoors and outdoors.

We are continuing our learning on The Three Little Pigs. The children were very creative and made their own house for the pig out of junk modelling. They used a whole range of craft materials, scissors, glue and tape. They also pretended to be the wolf. They huffed and puffed to try and blow down different objects. We have also been colour mixing to make pink in order to paint the pigs.

In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 3 and how to represent the number 3 using different objects. We have also been matching and sorting objects into the correct colour.

Our sound of the week is a. The children have been using Fred Talk with sounds beginning with a… a-n-t ant. We have also been using different art resources to make the letter a.

To strengthen our fine motor skills, we have been doing lots of different activities including Write Dance. Mrs Cook told the story of The Three Little Pigs with different instructions and the children had to use big and small movements on the paper. A fun way to develop fine motor skills is threading Cheerio's onto spaghetti!

We went on a walk to look for signs of Winter. The children are trying very hard with their independence skills of putting wellies, coats and waterproofs on. If you could encourage this at home as well that would be fantastic.

A brilliant week Nursery superstars, well done!

Week 16 in Nursery

Welcome back!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. The children were very excited to talk about what they got from Santa.

We have had a fun and very busy first week back. We welcomed our new Nursery friends and we have been showing them how to play in our Nursery.

Over the next 3 weeks our story focus is The Three Little Pigs. We have our very own construction site in Nursery where we have been working together to build our own houses. Great teamwork skills Nursery!

We have also been learning all about the letter m.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed singing Nursery rhymes. We sequenced the rhyme Humpty Dumpty.

We have had a big focus on Winter now that the weather is cold, brrrr! We went on a walk to look for signs of Winter and used hammers to smash the ice. We made different Winter pictures including a picture of us dressed for Winter.

We are trying very hard to put our coats, waterproofs and wellies on independently.

A brilliant week Nursery. Well done!
