General information

Ellington is a single form entry primary school, which serves the villages of Ellington and Cresswell on the beautiful Northumberland coastline. Due to the excellent reputation of the school, pupils are also drawn from a very large local area with an increasing number of children being transported from outlying areas.

Children come to our school from a variety of social backgrounds and we are proud of our inclusivity, which has been highly praised in all of our Ofsted inspection reports, the last of which was published in January 2019.

Our school day begins with registration at 8:45am with the doors opening at 8:40am.

The school day ends at 3:15pm.

Our Nursery sessions run from 8:45am - 11:45am (Morning session) and 12:15pm - 3:15pm (Afternoon session) and 8:45am - 3:15pm for full day sessions.

We offer part or full time attendance in our nursery and full time attendance from the start of Reception in our Early Years Foundation Stage. There are currently 175 children on roll in addition to the children in nursery.

Ellington became a primary school in September 2015 as part of the re-organisation of the Ashington Partnership of schools from a three tier to a two tier system and our capacity is 210 in addition to the nursery.

Children enter our school at the age of 3+ and remain with us until the age of 11. We have close links with the other schools in our partnership and work collaboratively with them.

Our school building consists of a nursery, reception, two key stage one and four key stage two classrooms. The school facilities also include a hall, studio, library, playground space, floodlit all-weather multi-use games area and a large playing field.

There are currently seven full time teachers and two part time teachers, six full-time and four part-time Teaching Assistants employed by the school and we work together as a team towards whole school aims, objectives and policies.

We are fortunate to have a very supportive governing body and PTA.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
