Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium (PP) is an allocation of additional Government funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who may be vulnerable to underachievement. These include pupils who currently receive or have been entitled to receive free school meals in the last 6 years (FSM/FSM6); those looked after by the Local Authority (LAC) and children of Armed Services personnel; in 2015/16, a new Early Years Pupil Premium Grant was introduced.

The PPG per-pupil rate for 2024 to 2025 is as follows:

Pupils in year groups reception to year 6 recorded as Ever 6 free school meals (FSM)

£1,480

Looked-after children (LAC) defined in the Children Act 1989 as one who is in the care of, or provided with accommodation by, an English local authority

£500

Children who have ceased to be looked after by a local authority in England and Wales because of adoption, a special guardianship order, or child arrangements order (previously known as a residence order)

£2,570

Pupils in year groups reception to year 11 recorded as Ever 6 service child or in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence

£340

Schools are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils for whom they have responsibility and are held accountable for the decisions they make as to how the Pupil Premium allocation is spent and the impact it has had for pupils.

Key Principles for Ellington Primary School:

  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meets the needs of all of our pupils and that appropriate provision is made for pupils who may belong to vulnerable groups. This includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.
  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive Free School Meals will be socially disadvantaged.
  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for Free School Meals.  We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil, or groups of pupils, who the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
  • Pupil Premium funding is allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority groups or individuals.  Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving Free School Meals will be in receipt of interventions at one time.

Provision:

At Ellington Primary School, Pupil Premium funding is used in a variety of ways to help to target appropriate support at identified individuals and groups of pupils to overcome any barriers to learning, including improving attendance, and to look to narrow the gap to improve attainment.  It is also used to provide enrichment activities to enhance curriculum provision for all, including those pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding.

Allocations (including Recovery Funding):

Financial Year 2024-2025: £

Financial Year 2023-2024  £54,907

Financial Year 2022-2023 £55,764
