Weeks of hard work have resulted in a fantastic play, ‘You Are Special’, that we performed to the whole school on Monday, and parents and carers on Wednesday and Thursday. We showed fantastic collaboration and effort to get this play running smoothly and we are also proud of the message contained in the songs and the story. We certainly are all special!
On Tuesday, we travelled into Newcastle to visit the Great North Museum. This tied in brilliantly with our Egypt topic. We took part in a practical workshop all about the jobs that Egyptian people did, and we were absolutely fascinated by the information about the mummies contained within the museum that was shared with us! We also had time to explore the other exhibits at the museum and really impressed everyone we met with our behaviour.
May 2025
Hello everyone,
As ever, we are certainly keeping very busy in year 3! We are loving the two new books we have been working with in May: In reading lessons we have embarked on a crazy journey with the dad in the story of ‘Fortunately the Milk’. We are still deciding whether the whole adventure might all be in his imagination! In writing lessons, we have been looking closely at the beautiful illustrations and words in Angela McAllister’s book ‘Leon and the Place Between’ and generating some amazing vocabulary ourselves as well.
As we do at the start of each term, in maths we have been honing our skills in column methods for calculation. This term we have been able to move onto formal methods for multiplication and have discovered that we can confidently multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. No doubt we will have mastered methods for division soon as well.
Science has involved a lot of practical work as we have started our unit of work on plants. So far, we have set up some beans growing on our classroom windows to observe the roots and shoots emerging closely, and we have designed an experiment to find out whether the number of sunflower seeds planted in a pot affects how well the plant grows.
As part of our PSHE work, we had a lovely visit from a team of ‘Pedestrian Trainers’ at the start of term, who worked with us on the rules of the Green Cross Code and helped us to think carefully about road safety.
Friday afternoons have been taken up with preparations for our play, which we are excited to perform in June! The songs are sounding great and we are all getting gradually more confident with our acting skills as well.
What a great start to the term, not to mention the beautiful weather! How lovely to spend playtimes on the field and get out and about for different events. Enjoy the sunshine everyone!
